#18 The Prince, The Princess & The Raging River

The Prince & Princess (2 paperclips) dive into the Raging River (a $5 Bill to which they are attached) with a Life saver (a rubber band). When a huge wave drags them under (when the $5 Bill is snapped open), the Prince & Princess are seen safely clinging to each other attached to the Lifesaver on shore (the paperclips are linked together & to the rubber band, which hangs down from the $5 Bill). And they lived happily ever after! A classic of magic with an elastic twist and a lovely romantic story!!

The “paperclips on the dollar bill” is a classic of magic that you can find in many magic books for kids. I have added the rubber band lifesaver and the romantic love story.

Putting the paperclips and the rubber band on the $5 bill is very difficult to explain with words, but here goes and please watch the video again after reading this.

You fold the bill in half lengthwise (hotdog fold – ask the kids) and then fold one end in about a third of the way. In the middle of this section, use a paperclip to hold both sides together. Next, fold the other end of the $5 bill back onto itself. Slide a rubber band onto the bill from this end and push it all the way until it stops. Use a second paperclip to hold the outside of this end to the closest edge of the bill which is an inside fold together.
When you are done you should only see one paperclip on the outside of the bill on either side. The other parts of the paperclips are inside the folds of the bill. From a bird’s eye view, it looks like the insides of the paperclips are in two little holes (where the bill has been folded).

Take hold of the bill with your thumb and index fingers at each end and pull quickly to straighten the bill and then shake the bill up and down. The two paperclips, now linked together, will fall down past the bill and hang on the rubber band.

And you will live happily right after you perform this Royal story from the well deserved applause you will receive! Two things to practice: placing the paperclips and rubber band onto the $5 bill correctly and the story that you want to tell and then it will be Romantic Magic!!
