#2 Cut and Restored Tissue

This trick is a very easy switch. When done smoothly it will have your audience’s jaws dropping. You just tear up a tissue, put it back together and then show your hands empty. Clean!!

You are going to get two!…count ‘em…Two magical secrets in this one little trick!! The Cut and Restored Tissue is a switch. Oh!! But what a switch it is. Performed correctly, even if the audience knows it’s a switch, no one will ever know how it was done.

The first secret is an age old move that magicians use to get rid of something which is hidden in their hand. “Let me get some magic dust” or “I’ll use this wand” or “I need a bag to put this coin into” and the hand goes into their pocket to get the dust, wand or whatever it is, but the real reason to go into that pocket is to ditch (get rid of) what has been hidden in your hand. And once your hand comes back out, you can end the trick Clean!!, which means there’s nothing in your hands. You cover the fact that you need to DITCH something by saying you need to GET something!! Brilliant!

The second magic secret is not a move; it is a look – the look of your hands. It is called symmetry. Both your hands should look the same as much as possible. When you have something hidden in one hand, that hand should not look any different than your other empty hand. If all your fingers of one hand are relaxed and half open, but the other hand is gripped into a fist, it won’t be long before everyone knows that you are hiding something in there. And when that something appears, they will know where it came from. Not very magical. So, symmetry means both sides the same- is something hidden in one side of your coat, then the other side of the coat should stick out just as much. Get it? Of course you do!

And how do magicians know all this stuff. We all had someone help us learn, just like I’m telling you right now. My greatest source of learning magic came from the only magic store that is left in Toronto, Ontario, Canada – The Browser’s Den of Magic. So, I would suggest you check out their website; it has everything you need to get your magic show ready: books, DVDs, and all the props and tricks you can imagine. And even if you don’t live nearby and can’t get to the store, they deliver!!

So, all you have to do now is get a couple of tissues and practice, because it is the Practice which Makes the Magic!!
